Government Delivers Fully Equipped Maternity Annex at Moseni Basilio Health Post in Lunte
Lunte, Northern Province – 10th May 2025
In a landmark achievement aimed at improving maternal health services, the Government of the Republic of Zambia has officially handed over a fully equipped maternity annex at Moseni Basilio Health Post in Lunte District, constructed at a total cost of K1.28 million under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The new facility boasts an 8.3kW solar power system valued at K297,378, medical equipment worth K590,000, and a K200,000 incinerator, ensuring enhanced access to safe delivery services for expectant mothers in rural communities.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Northern Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Bernard Mpundu underscored the government’s commitment to improving citizens’ lives through decentralization and people-centered development.
“This maternity annex is more than a structure; it is a symbol of the government’s resolve to uplift health standards in underserved areas,” said Mr. Mpundu.
Lunte District Commissioner Mr. Joseph Chilando emphasized that the annex will reduce the distance women previously had to travel to access delivery services.
In a show of gratitude, Sub Chief Ponde commended President Hakainde Hichilema for fulfilling his 2018 promise, noting that the annex will ease the burden on women who previously had to seek maternal care in distant districts.
The project is a demonstration of the government’s continued efforts to prioritize rural healthcare development, and a practical reflection of the CDF’s impact on local communities.
