Vice President Mutale Nalumango has described the flooding situation in Mungwi District as severe, following an aerial assessment of areas along Chambeshi River.

Dr. Nalumango observed that the floods have exceeded normal patterns, affecting even communities located far from the river. She attributed the disaster to climate change and called for strengthened community resilience.

She noted that despite a productive farming season, many households have lost their entire crops, raising concerns over food security. The Vice President assured that Government is providing support to affected families, with relief efforts already underway under the directive of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Meanwhile, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit National Coordinator Norman Chipakupaku revealed that DMMU has established a camp in Mungwi District sheltering about 80 displaced families. He said the unit is providing food and non-food relief items and will continue supporting affected households until they regain food security.
